Please vote for Jill Robinson

Jill Robinson, the extraordinary and totally inspirational founder and CEO of Animals Asia has been nominated for the Spirit of Hong Kong Award.  I have shared this everywhere else and just thought I’d ask our followers here to please vote for Jill if you agree she deserves to win this, as I’m sure you will.  This wouldn’t just give Jill the recognition she so thoroughly deserves but would also make more people aware of Animals Asia and animal welfare issues in Asia.

This is where you can vote – just scroll down to Jill’s picture and click on it

The deadline is 4 November, so please vote today.  If you would like to ask others to vote who may not know about Animals Asia or bear bile farming, this would be a good video to send along with the link

Ever since I first learnt about Animals Asia I have been very passionate about doing whatever I can to help raise funds and end the cruelty; even more so since I’ve seen the saved bears myself, both in China and Vietnam. So, thank you so much for voting for Jill and for the bears and all animals in Asia too!

Award winning “Cages of Shame” at the Odeon Lounge

Come and join the London Animals Asia Support Group for a screening of the award winning “Cages of Shame” by Martin Guinness on Saturday 21 September at the Odeon Lounge Bayswater. The film tells the story of bear bile farming in China and the mission to save ten bears and close down the last remaining bear farm in Shandong Province.

This is a very inspirational film showing the dedication of the amazing Animals Asia team and the help received from locals on the long drive back home to the sanctuary in Chengdu. It also features Oliver’s dramatic and life saving operation on the back of a truck.  He is living happily at the sanctuary today, aged 33.

Muffins and juice will be available throughout and we will have a mini auction after the screening.

About 95% of the £30 entrance fee will go towards helping the animals as the Odeon Lounge has very generously donated the use of the theatre, the technician is volunteering his time and most of the catering has been donated as well.

Doors open at 10.30am for an 11am screening

Places are strictly limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. You can book online here or use the form below to reserve your tickets if you prefer to pay by cheque.  Please note that the online booking is subject to a small booking fee.

Virginia McKenna on “Cages of Shame”

I had seen for myself, on my visit to China, the devotion of all the staff in Chengdu to the rescued bears, and the high standard of care and sensitivity to the needs of all those special animals. But when I saw “Cages of Shame” my feelings of admiration rose even higher. The gruelling journey, for both animals and humans, the fear that some might not survive it and the emergency operation, the gathering exhaustion. But the unfailing calm and professionalism were inspirational to all of us privileged to watch the story unfold. Our joy, as an audience, when the convoy reached the sanctuary was overwhelming. I just want to thank you. We watch from afar but you are never forgotten.

Trekking for Animals Asia

In October this year I will be joining a group of other Animals Asia supporters to trek through the jungles of Northern Vietnam, and together we will be raising thousands of pounds to help Animals Asia in their mission to end cruelty to all animals across Asia.   Although we will be rewarded with a visit to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in Tam Dao National Park we will have to complete the trek through humid jungles and up rocky paths, and it will certainly not be a 5 day leisurely stroll.  Accommodation and facilities will be very basic as we will be staying with local families – no comfy hotel beds or bathrooms.

I did the Animals Asia China trek in 2011 which was absolutely amazing but also very scary at times, especially when there was only a narrow path with a steep rise on one side and an equally steep drop on the other as you can see below.

I am paying my own costs but am still short on the minimum sponsorship and would really appreciate any help you can offer.  With Animals Asia you know that the money will directly help the animals we all care about, so if you think that any of your friends or family might like to help me reach my sponsorship target, please feel free to pass on my JustGiving page. Any amount will be much appreciated.  You can also donate by text by simply texting the code MDVI50 £1 (£2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070.

I will try to post a daily update from Vietnam in October so you can see how we’re all getting on.

Thank you so much! 🙂
